Most Ready Access windows “self-close”, so when the operator steps away, the window closes by itself. Here are the reasons why you might want this:
- FOOD SAFETY. Foodservice Health Code typically requires windows to self-close to protect the kitchen from insects, car fumes and high temperature.
- PRIVACY
- SECURITY
- HVAC Temperature Control
So how does a window close by itself? There are a number of ways. All are considered the window’s OPERATING SYSTEM. All operating systems are located in the window header, to allow for a track free sill that is easy to keep clean.
OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR SINGLE PANEL SLIDERS
Models 275 / 275LP /600 / 550/ 650 / 601 / 602 – Doors slide L/R or R/L from outside view to keep the counter free for serving & staging orders.
- (SC) Manual open / self-close Key Benefit: affordable, easy to maintain, no power required.
Windows close by gravity on a patented system of rollers/rails in the header. Rollers are the same quality used on commercial aircraft, so they will not freeze and do not require lubrication. (adjustable to manual open/manual close)
- (MOER) – Manual open / electronic release Key Benefit: affordable, easy to maintain, no need to keep one hand on the window when serving customer.
Windows also close by gravity, but have a “magnetic hold open” for hands free service to the customer. The electromagnet is engaged as long as the attendant stands under the presence sensor. When operator steps away, the magnet releases and the window self-closes by gravity. Unlike a fully electric window, it can be “rushed” along without hurting the operating system. This is the system recommended by the largest foodservice chains.
- (E) Fully Automatic Electric Key Benefit: Hands free operation – no need to touch the window.
Windows use a motor for hands free open & close. With fully automatic operation, the operator simply breaks the light beam of the presence sensor to open the window, and steps away to close it. The presence sensor is factory-installed on the header and has an adjustable beam of light. It is also available with a hip-scan presence-sensor or toggle switch (specify when ordering).

OPERATING SYSTEMS FOR BI-PARTING WINDOWS
Models 131 / Bump Out 10 doors slide open to the sides to keep the counter surface open for staging and serving.
- (SC) Manual Open / Self Close With manual open/ self-close operation the operator uses one hand to disengage the latch and both panels easily slide to the sides. When they let go, the panels slide shut on a patented gravity fed track in the header and latch so the window cannot be pushed open from the outside.
Key Benefit: affordable, easy to maintain, no power required - (E) Fully Automatic Electric uses a motor for hands free open & close. Opening size toggles between 12″ and 18″
With fully automatic operation, the operator simply breaks the light beam of the presence sensor to open the window, and steps away to close it. Toggling to the smaller opening size allows the window to meet CA health code restricted opening requirements, or can be used in inclement weather and later day parts for staff comfort and safety. Factory settings close the window 3 seconds after the operator steps away. The “close delay” button toggles between 3 and 6 seconds if you want the window to remain open longer.
Key Benefit: Hands free operation – no need to touch the window. Adjustable opening size. Most popular way to order a bi-parting window. -
- 131 is available with overhead presence sensor (standard) or hip scan sensor
- Bump Out 10 is supplied with a hip scan sensor
- The 131 and Bump Out 10 can also be manufactured with Manual open / Manual close operation if specified when ordering.

Models Bump Out 2 and Bump Out 4 – doors fold in so they will not hit cars or walk-up patrons. This also allows for a narrow overall frame size of 27 3/4″w.
- (Semi) Semi Automatic Hip Push Pad Key Benefit: affordable, no power required.
With semi-automatic operation, no power or electronics are required. The operator presses their hip against the push pad to open the window, and it closes when they step away.
- (E) Fully Automatic Electric Key Benefit: Hands free operation – no need to touch the window
With fully automatic electric operation, the window opens when the operator breaks the light beam of the hip height sensor. It closes when the operator steps away.
